HISTORY
Founded in
1998, the Java River Café in Montevideo is a sustainable community
centerserving up gourmet coffee, specialty drinks, ice cream, desserts,
soups, sandwiches and salads featuring the best locally produced cuisine
that western Minnesota can offer. Java River is an outgrowth of the Land
Stewardship Project which seeks to create a sustainable agriculture system
and promote an ethic of stewardship toward our nations farmlands and waterways.
Owned and operated by Cathy & Amanda Blaseg, Java River has experienced
considerable growth its eight years of business. Java River is regarded
as a showcase for the sustainably produced products of the Upper Minnesota
River Watershed. As a regional center of cultural activity, Java River
promotes art exhibits and regular concerts featuring artists from throughout
Southwestern Minnesota.
