Florence Borman

Bio:

Florence Borman is a long-time Montevideo resident. About ten years after her retirement from teaching in the local school district, she decided to try her hand at watercolor painting. She considers herself fortunate to have spent many hours under the tutelage of Alexandria artists Ellen Eilers and Janell Sundberg, Terry Stanczak of Mesa, AZ, and David Butt of Regina, Saskatchewan. Her horizons have broadened in workshops by Mary Ann Beckwith, Grace Haverty, Jim McChessney, Bridget Austin, Karen Knutson, Katia Andreeva and Ellen Jean Diederich.

A three-season member of the Alexandria Brush and Palette, Florence benefits weekly from these artists' camaraderie and expertise. She has participated in their exhibits at the Douglas County Fair, Alexandria's Art in the Park, and the Douglas County Library. She is a member of the summerArt Gallery located at Carlos Creek Winery. In the past, she has won ribbons at the Chippewa County Fair, the Hawley Art Show and the Staples Rotary Arts and Crafts Show.

Of her work, Florence says, "Watercolor is a very satisfying medium. Each finished painting, whether successful or a throw-away, surprises me. The difficult part is disciplining myself to regular practice, something I continue to work on."
