Florence Borman
Bio:
Florence Borman is a long-time Montevideo resident. About ten years after her retirement from teaching in the local school district, she decided to try her hand at watercolor. She has studied with Alexandria artists Janell Sundberg and Ellen Eilers, Terry Stanczak of Mesa, Arizona, and David Butt of Regina, Saskatchewan. She has attended workshops by Mary Ann Beckwith, Grace Haverty and Jim McChessney.
Florence says her style is still under development, but she tends to gravitate towards landscapes rather than still lifes and portraits. In 2003 a watercolor of her three granddaughters won a purple ribbon at the Chippewa County Fair, and "Village Church" was awarded a blue ribbon. Also in 2003, "Under Water" received a third-place ribbon in the amateur division of the Hawley Art Show, and "Autumn Leaves" earned a merit ribbon at the Staples Rotary Arts and Crafts Show.
A three-season member of the Alexandria Brush and Palette, Florence benefits weekly from these artists' comraderie and expertise. She has participated in their exhibits at the Douglas County Fair, Alexandria's Art in the Park, Carlos Creek Winery's Grape Stomp and a revolving display at the Douglas County Library.
